  • Time To Let Go

    Time To Let Go

My husband and I, went to  watch my son swear in to the Army this morning. We were planning to stay with him until he flew out to his training facility.

There were many young people shipping out today.  The Military Processing Facility was packed with family and friends to see them off.  As the recruits names were called, they would be ushered into a room for the official swearing ceremony that enlisted them into their designated branch of service. There were so many recruits they had three swearing in ceremonies.  My son was in the last group to be sworn in.  As the room started to clear out, the recruits remained. Many family members were leaving. I just watched them interacting with each other. No one looked too nervous.  Many of the conversations I overheard were about how anxious they were to get to started at training.

At that moment, before the swearing in ceremony, I told my husband that we could head on home after the ceremony.  There was no need for us to stay.  I realized that my son was no longer my little baby who needed his mom to walk him through this process. He was a young man starting a new chapter in HIS journey.  My husband smiled at me and said, “he’s going to be fine, it’s time to let him go.”

    Braving the Weather

I just made it back from my morning walk. It’s a cloudy morning which often makes me ponder just when will the rain pour down.  I debated on whether to go to the gym and walk the treadmill instead. I prefer a walk in the park over the treadmill any day.  I have gotten caught in the rain on several occasions in the past.

I decided to go to the park to walk.  I felt a few rain drops falling. Definitely not enough for a wash out.  As I walked and I knew I was going to be able to get a complete walk in, I realized I could have let the dark clouds over head keep me from doing the one thing that I absolutely love.  In that very moment the clouds took on a whole new meaning.

The clouds are like the fears in our mind. The fear of what others think or say.  Success comes when we chose not to let the clouds in our minds keep us from do what we love to do. Go all in and enjoy the walk!

I love walks in the park but this past winter I told my husband, “I am getting soft”. I just couldn’t handle walking in the cold anymore so I started going to the gym to walk on the treadmill. The maximum workout setting is 58 minutes. I would go in each morning, grab my hand towels, hit manual workout and start walking. One morning I was just watching the countdown timer, noticing the seconds turn into minutes over and over again. Then it hit me! I was spending 58 minutes walking on a treadmill. Those 58 minutes I would never get back again. In that moment, I realized every second of every minute is a gift.

We all have this one precious life to live. Take a moment, stop, breathe and enjoy it.

    Grandma Has Got You

I love watching my granddaughter learn new things. She watches my husband and I so closely that she can usually pick up and copy what we do rather quickly. The word fear has no meaning to her at the ripe age of 18 months. I take her to the park and let her climb the playground play set. She climbs and jumps and runs with the big kids. I follow and closely standby just in case she reaches out for help.

Just watching her play has taught me so much. Life is about enjoying the moment. I used to get caught up in thinking about past events or stressing over future ones that I missed the gift in being present. Life looks more vivid, more colorful when I stop and reflect on what is important at the moment. I don’t what to miss one smile, one laugh or one reach of my granddaughter’s hand. Vow to take time each day to reflect on what’s important, there is a gift to be seen.

    Warning Signals

warning-lights4I am an avid walker but I have learned to pay attention to my body’s warning indicator signals like sore knees or pinched nerves. As much as I don’t like to stop walking, I know it’s my body’s way of letting me know I need to slow down. This is the only body I have, and as with anything, to keep it working and functioning the way it needs to, it requires self-care. Take time to relax, renew and refresh yourself, you are worth it.

    The Missing Ingredient

28057_recipebook-closeupI was never much into cooking and I still not, but I am a little bit more willing to look for new recipe ideas to try. There are so many websites that offer you recipes and tips that there really is no need to have a cookbook any more. You can create your own.

I think the missing ingredient to creating a wonderful life, is the desire to learn. There are books, seminars, classes, websites, etc that are available for you to find in whatever subject you are looking for. Continue to feed your hunger for learning and quench your thirst for knowledge. Strive to be a lifetime learner.

puzzled1366Everyone has a story but not everyone is willing to share their story, and that’s the sad part. Everyone can learn something from the experiences we are willing to share. There are lessons learned and insights that help paint a bigger picture of this big beautiful thing called life. Your story just may be the piece to someone else’s puzzle.
